A Great Expectation

I leave for London, England in approximately eighteen days. Webster University has a partnership with Regents American College, and I will be studying and living there for six weeks.  I decided to go on this trip on a whim.  As a dance major, I am somewhat expected to attend a dance intensive in the summer when school is not in session.  I love dancing, but my options in dance this summer were extremely limited.  So, I decided to go abroad and learn and absorb the culture of the English.

I wake up every morning knowing that life will be okay because I am blessed enough to move to the rhythm of music.  But even I get burnt out.  With dance comes hours of criticism, from myself and from others.  With dance comes Great Expectations.  And like Pip from Charles Dicken's novel, I constantly find the need to better myself both morally and in terms of dance (okay, Pip does not want to better himself in terms of dance. But he did strive for an excellent education). I am taking this summer to dance in a new light, without dancing in the studios.  I am going to dance through the streets of London, where I expect to find new experiences, friendships, and memories.
